Collaborating Organizations Overseas

AIMR vigorously promotes international cooperation with many overseas research institutions.

Satellites

AIMR has concluded agreements with the following three research institutions as satellites to conduct bidirectional exchange in multidisciplinary areas. Under these agreements, we have established AIMR Joint Research Centers (JRCs) and have locally hired JRC Scientists.* This is to construct a framework to promote particularly intensive joint research with leading materials science research institutions in Europe, North America, and Asia.

Country University Affiliated Faculty Collaborate Research Overview
United Kingdom University of Cambridge Prof. Alan Lindsay Greer (PI)
Prof. Christopher James Pickard (PI)

Partners

AIMR has concluded inter-departmental academic exchange agreement with the following research institutions.

We are vigorously advancing international joint research with the University of Cambridge, which is a JRC, by concluding agreements with two departments involved with materials science. We have been conducting the international internship program G-RIPS Sendai since 2018 through close collaboration with the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

G-RIPS Sendai Program

AIMR conducts G-RIPS (Graduate-level Research in Industrial Projects for Students) Sendai in collaboration with UCLA’s IPAM. In Japan, this has been held at Tohoku University AIMR since 2018. The industrial partners to date have included Toyota Motor Corporation, Fujitsu Limited, and NEC Corporation.

In this program, teams formed with participants from the U.S. and Japan spend eight weeks intensively addressing mathematical issues provided by the industrial partners. It is an international internship program in which participants learn the pathway to reaching solutions. The program has achieved diverse outcomes and has been highly evaluated by both the students and the companies involved.

Institutions Affiliated with Overseas Principal Investigators (PIs) and Overseas Adjunct Professors

AIMR forms partnerships with top-class overseas research institutions utilizing its network of overseas PIs and overseas adjunct professors.
