Overview

Since its establishment in 2007, the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (WPI-AIMR) has produced numerous innovative research outcomes in materials science. The institute has also achieved impressive results in terms of making the campus more international and reforming its systems—including providing diverse support for non-Japanese researchers, putting in place an international environment with English as the official language, and introducing a new human resources system.

Having been selected as the only approved candidate for the University for International Research Excellence program in 2023, Tohoku University is called upon to create world-class knowledge and to take a lead in developing the innovations that will open up the future. Building on its outstanding achievements in science and innovation as a WPI Academy, I trust that AIMR will continue to play a leading role in cutting-edge research that will bring advanced materials science to the world .
