Prof. Hidekazu Kurebayashi selected as 2026 Wohlfarth Memorial Lecturer

Prof. Hidekazu Kurebayashi of AIMR (primary affiliation: CSIS, Tohoku University / University College London (UCL)) has been awarded the 2026 Wohlfarth Memorial Lecture Award, jointly presented by the Institute of Physics (IOP) Magnetism Group and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Magnetics Society UK and Ireland Chapter.
Founded in 1874, the IOP is a prestigious professional body and learned society dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of physics worldwide. The IEEE Magnetics Society is the world’s leading international society covering all aspects of magnetism and magnetic engineering, driving global technological innovation in the field.
The Wohlfarth Memorial Lecture Award is presented annually to a single researcher who has made outstanding international contributions to the field of magnetism and magnetic materials. Recipients are honored with the opportunity to deliver a plenary keynote, known as the “Wohlfarth Lecture,” at a major international conference in magnetism.
Prof. Kurebayashi was selected as the 2026 Lecturer in recognition of his pioneering research on “Spin–orbit torques for magnetization control and nonequilibrium magnonics.” He delivered the commemorative lecture at Intermag 2026, the premier international conference on magnetism, held in Manchester, UK, on April 16, 2026.
