Prof. Tomasz Dietl won the Tohoku University International Award – Special Award

Prof. Tomasz Dietl won the “Tohoku University International Award – Special Award”.

This award is given to those who have enhanced Tohoku University's international presence through their international effort. Prof. Dietl is affiliated with the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences and served as an overseas PI of AIMR from 2012 to 2023. In the field of spintronics, where our university enjoys a strong international reputation, Prof. Dietl has made outstanding academic contributions through his pioneering theoretical research. Notably, his paper published in Science in 2000 has been cited over 7,500 times (as of July 24, 2025, according to Web of Science). His work has significantly supported the advancement of spintronics research at our university from a theoretical perspective, while also making substantial contributions to education and human resource development. These accomplishments have been recognized through this award.

The award ceremony will be held as part of Tohoku University’s Homecoming Day 2025, scheduled for Saturday, October 11 at the Tohoku University Centennial Hall (Kawauchi Hagi Hall).
