Abstract

Spin waves, or their quanta - magnons - are elementary excitations of magnetic structure. Spin waves in magnetic insulators can carry information which is not accompanied by Ohmic dissipation. But they are also conceptually important in physics since they can interact with other excitations and demonstrate very interesting phenomena. The first part of my talk will be about interaction of magnons with microwave photons in the cavity geometry. I will discuss phenomena such as uni-directional excitation of magnons in thin films, sub- and superradiance and level attraction in open cavities. Then I will briefly talk about magnons in the recently discovered family of magnetic materials - two-dimensional van der Waals magnets.

About Tea Time Talk

AIMR’s Tea Time Talk is a kind of seminar aiming to promote exchange between world’s eminent researchers and young researchers at AIMR, held in a relaxed atmosphere at AIMR’s Friday Tea Time. The following researchers from around the world have given talks at this event so far, and participants have enjoyed discussion over a cup of tea.
