Title
“Small-Scale Energy Harvesting for Self-Powered Devices with a Special Focus on Thermal Energy Conversion using MultiPhysic Memory Alloys”
Date
January 17 (Fri.), 2020 16:30-17:30
Venue
Combination Room, 5th floor, AIMR Main Bldg.
Abstract
The proliferation of autonomous wireless devices has raised the issue of power supply. While conventional batteries are limited by their leakage and sensitivity to environments, small-scale energy harvesting, consisting of converting local sources into electricity, has emerged as an alternative. This talk provides a general overview of this concept, presenting typical sources and associated conversion materials and effects, both at conventional and exploratory levels. Considerations on the optimal use of this energy will be also devised. In the framework of an invitational JSPS fellowship, the second part exposes a particular application to thermal harvesting using MultiPhysic Memory Alloys, showing unique properties thanks to the coupling of structural transitions (Shape Memory Alloys) and ferromagnetic behavior.
About Tea Time Talk
AIMR’s Tea Time Talk is a kind of seminar aiming to promote exchange between world’s eminent researchers and young researchers at AIMR, held in a relaxed atmosphere at AIMR’s Friday Tea Time. The following researchers from around the world have given talks at this event so far, and participants have enjoyed discussion over a cup of tea.
