Novel magnetoresistance effect through spin currents discovered
-Possibilities towards research and development of new electronic devices-
Summary
Ph.D. student Hiroyasu Nakayama of the Institute for Materials Research of Tohoku University and Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Professor Eiji Saitoh of the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (concurrently Professor at the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University and Visiting Group Leader at the Advanced Science Research Center of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency), and Professor Gerrit E. W. Bauer of the Institute for Materials Research (concurrently Affiliated Professor at the Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University), and co-workers discovered a new magnetoresistance effect that could be explained in terms of the flow of electron spins.
