Abstract

Neural network potentials (NNPs) enable large-scale molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of systems containing over 10000 atoms with the accuracy comparable to ab initio methods and play a crucial role in materials science. Despite their effectiveness in short-time simulations, maintaining stability in long-time MD simulations is challenging due to the potential exploration of uncharted regions of the potential energy surface.

To address this, we developed an automatic NNP generator using an active learning (AL) framework. This generator integrates initial dataset creation, NNP training, evaluation, and additional structure generation, along with an AL-aided sampling strategy based on global structural features and additional local features such as interatomic distance.

We evaluated our NNP generator on liquid propylene glycol (PG) and polyethylene glycol (PEG), achieving stable NNP-MD simulations for 20 ns with systems over 10000 atoms. The predicted physical properties, such as density and self-diffusion coefficient, show good agreement with experimental values.

AIMR Seminars and Tea Time

We hold AIMR Seminars and Friday Tea Time as part of the initiative to promote fusion research.

Seminars are presented by AIMR researchers and visiting scientists who provide a wide range of hot topics from materials science to mathematics. The aims of the AIMR Seminar are to build up mutual understanding, communication, and discussions of each other’s research fields.

Weekly held Friday Tea Time is where AIMR researchers and staff members can relax and talk freely while drinking coffee. Expectations of stimulating conversation may arise among the researchers and leading to new research.

From 2024, active fusion research through synergistic effects from AIMR Seminars and Friday Tea Time will be promoted.
