“Katahira Festival 2025” AIMR Open House Event

On October 11, 2025, AIMR held an open house during the “Katahira Festival 2025.”

The Katahira Festival aims to help the general public understand Tohoku University's research and educational activities by opening affiliated research institutes located on the Katahira Campus, Seiryo Campus, and Aobayama Campus.

AIMR hosted a main event titled “AIMR Expo”, an exhibition of cutting-edge science. At booths where visitors could experience AIMR's research, attendees seemed to enjoy the world of science by peering through microscopes, handling mathematical objects, and asking questions directly to researchers. Additionally, three “AIMR Laboratory Tours” were held for pre-registered participants. Attendees toured areas of the laboratories not normally accessible to the public and viewed cutting-edge experimental equipment.

As a highlight of this event, a “Live Science Show” featuring science experiments enjoyable for everyone from young children to adults was held. Each of the five shows featured a different theme. Researchers put on entertaining, ingeniously designed shows to convey the fascination of science, and the packed audience was amazed and thrilled.

Additionally, Prof. Ando from AIMR's Mathematical Science Group participated in a special talk session held at Sakura Hall. Titled “AI That Computes with the Environment,” he lectured on the novel concept of “Environmentally Inspired Physical Reservoir Computing,” which involves “using the environment itself to process information.” The audience listened intently.

Despite the unfortunate rainy weather this year, over 1,000 people attended the Katahira Festival at AIMR. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for their visit.
