Prof. Motoko Kotani appointed as the President-Elect of International Science Council

Prof. Motoko Kotani, Tohoku University Executive Vice President for Research as well as Principal Investigator at AIMR, has been appointed as the President-Elect of International Science Council (ISC) at the 2nd ISC General Assembly held on October 14, 2021.

Prof. Kotani’s term of office will be three years and she will assume the presidency at the next General Assembly in 2024. The ISC members also elected Prof. Sawako Shirahase at the University of Tokyo as the Vice President for Finance.

The ISC was formed in 2018 by the merger between the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). It is the only international non-governmental organization with a unique global membership that brings together 40 international scientific Unions and Associations and over 140 national and regional scientific organizations including Academies and Research Councils.
