[7/21] THE 21ST AIMR TEA TIME TALK
The 21st AIMR Tea Time Talk
Speaker
Prof. Gael Sebald
(INSA Lyon / ELyT MaX at Tohoku University)
ELyT MaX: Engineering & Science, Lyon-Tohoku joint laboratory for Materials and Systems under Extreme Conditions
Title
Caloric materials for solid-state cooling
Date
July 21 (Fri.), 2017 16:00-17:00
Venue
Combination Room, 5th floor, WPI-AIMR Main Bldg.
Abstract
The seminar is devoted to the presentation of caloric materials, i.e. materials whose entropy is function to an external quantity in addition to temperature. It can be a dependence on magnetic field (magnetocaloric effect), an electric field (electrocaloric effect), a hydrostatic pressure (barocaloric materials) or a longitudinal strain (elastocaloric materials). The different types of caloric effects with be presented based on thermodynamic considerations. Finally, a few examples of solid-state cooling prototypes based on these materials will be introduced.
About Tea Time Talk
AIMR’s Tea Time Talk is a kind of seminar aiming to promote exchange between world’s eminent researchers and young researchers at AIMR, held in a relaxed atmosphere at AIMR’s Friday Tea Time. The following researchers from around the world have given talks at this event so far, and participants have enjoyed discussion over a cup of tea.
