Abstract
Spin current, a flow of spin angular momentum, is a key concept in spintronics [1]. To create and manipulate spin currents, electromagnetic fields, magnetization dynamics, and spin-orbit coupling have been used. Recently, we have theoretically shown that spin current can be generated using mechanical motion including rigid rotation [2], linear acceleration [3], and elastic deformations [4]. Here I will introduce the background and our recent study on spin-current generation due to mechanical motion.
Fig. Spin current generation due to rotational deformations in a nonmagnetic metal. In the presence of the surface acoustic wave, gradient of an effective magnetic field is induced along the y-axis, and spin current is generated along the y-axis.
