AIMR Participated in the 2026 Spring Meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS)

Researchers and staff from AIMR, Empa, KIT, and JSPS Strasbourg Office
AIMR co-hosted a symposium and exhibited a booth at the Spring Meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS), held in Strasbourg, France.
Founded in 1983, E-MRS is Europe’s most influential international society in the field of materials science, boasting over 4,000 members. From May 26 to 28, AIMR, in collaboration with the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Strasbourg Office, exhibited a booth to enhance AIMR’s international visibility and introduce the JSPS International Fellowship Programs, primarily targeting overseas early/mid-career researchers. Out of 63 exhibitors, AIMR stood out as the only university institution, attracting significant attention and welcoming approximately 400 visitors over the three-day event.
In addition, from May 25 to 27, AIMR co-hosted a symposium titled “Interdisciplinary approaches in materials science for addressing energy/environmental challenges.” This was organized in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa)—where the AIMR Joint Research Center (JRC) is based—and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. Director Shin-ichi Orimo delivered the opening remarks on behalf of the organizers, introducing AIMR’s initiatives. On the final day, the symposium highlighted AIMR’s strong research capabilities, featuring consecutive presentations by a total of eight researchers from AIMR and Tohoku University’s Core Research Cluster for Materials Science (CRC-MS).
Furthermore, on the evening of the first exhibition day, AIMR hosted a lively networking event right in front of the booth. AIMR researchers who participated as symposium speakers gathered to engage in open, vibrant discussions with more than 80 attendees over light refreshments and drinks.
This year’s meeting provided a valuable opportunity to connect AIMR and its researchers with people from various countries and research fields. We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who visited our booth and events.
