Title : Assessing the disorder effect in quantum devices
Abstract：
The active harnessing of quantum resources in engineered quantum devices poses unprecedented requirements on device control. Besides the residual interaction with the environment, causing environment-induced decoherence, uncontrolled parameters in the system itself--disorder--remains as a substantial factor limiting precision and thus performance of devices. These perturbations may arise, for instance, due to imperfect sample production, stray fields, or finite accuracy of control electronics. I present quantum master equations as a unifying framework to discuss how these detrimental disorder-induced influences cause deviations from the desired system dynamics. In this approach, the effect of the disorder enters the evolution in terms of incoherent dynamical contributions, which reflect the symmetries of the system and the disorder statistics. Such description may contribute to unveil and mitigate disorder effects towards robust schemes. After introducing the general framework, I demonstrate applications to single-qubit gates, quantum transport scenarios (with a focus on the topologically protected transport in topological insulators), and the stability of flatband states.
