2026. 4. 8 Hanami gathering under the cherry blossoms.
2025. 12. 22 Our group attended the AIMR Year-End Party. It was a welcome moment to gather with colleagues across AIMR and take a photo together at the close of the year.
2025. 11. 7 The 2nd Japan-Korea-China Battery Science Workshop was held at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Katahira Campus, Sendai. The workshop featured presentations by leading researchers from Japan, Korea, and China on recent advances in battery science, followed by a collegial evening gathering in Ichibancho.
2025. 11. 6 We welcomed Prof. Simon Fleischmann from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Prof. Xunda Feng from Donghua University (DHU) to Sendai with a visit to a local beef tongue restaurant, one of the city's signature specialties.
2025. 11. 5 As a member of the Kato Lab football team at IMR, we won our first institution-level
championship in more than a decade.
2025. 11. 4 We were honored to host Prof. Shusuke Yagi (University of Tokyo), Prof. Hengxing Ji (University of Science and Technology of China), Prof. Weijiang Xue (Xi'an Jiaotong University), Prof. Simon Fleischmann (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Prof. Shuo Wang (Wuhan University of Technology), and Prof. Sareeya Bureekaew (VISTEC) at the Energy Session of MSSp2025, held at the Katahira Campus. We also enjoyed a lunch break together at the Katahira cafeteria.
2025. 10. 24 We held a farewell gathering for Mr. Jing Wei, who joined our group on October 26, 2024, from Wuhan University of Technology as a joint PhD student. He spent a full year with us, contributing to three published papers. We sincerely appreciated his valuable contributions to our group.
2025. 10. 5 Prof. Xiangyu Zhong, Prof. Zihao Wang, and Prof. Peng Chen from Tohoku University joined Prof. Cheng in hosting a welcome gathering for Prof. Fei Chen, Editor of
Materials Science and Engineering A, from Wuhan University of Technology, along with his students Dr. Lijie Zou and Mr. Guangshuai Gu.
2025. 7. 13 Our group visited the Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, followed by a nearby sushi restaurant. The outing offered a relaxed afternoon of observation, conversation, and Sendai seafood.

2024. 10. 13 Together with Prof. Zhiqiang Mao from Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), our group visited Yamadera Temple in the mountains northeast of Yamagata City. After climbing the steep stone steps, we were rewarded with sweeping views of the valley below.
