Welcome to Crystal Interface Science Group !

The Crystal Interface Science Research Group (PI: Yuichi IKUHARA) locates at Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University. Our main aim is to unveil the fundamental principle that governs the stable atomic structure of crystalline defects and the mechanism of their functional properties. We combine direct characterization of materials by state-of-art atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, determination of electronic/magnetic states by advanced spectroscopy, explorations of functional properties by atomistic first-principles calculations, and the establishment of the universal geometrical theory of crystalline interfaces by pure mathematical approaches. Thereby we make an essential contribution for the development of advanced materials.
