Recruitment of a specially appointed assistant professor or a postdoctoral researcher at materials/physics group, Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR), Tohoku University

Applicants are invited for a specially appointed assistant professor or a postdoctoral researcher position for theoretical study on materials interface. The position is affiliated to the AIMR’s materials/physics group (Prof. Yuichi Ikuhara and Assoc. Prof. Kazutoshi Inoue) supported by JST FOREST program. The group’s research topics are theoretical studies of grain boundaries and interfaces in metals and oxides
  • To reveal their 3D atomic structure combined with atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy,
  • To reveal the origin of structure-property relationships, and
  • To establish the universal mathematical theory to describe the interface geometry.
Please see the detail of the group in the following URL.

Applicants are expected to have research experiences based on either
  • (i) mathematical analyses such as geometry and algebra, or
  • (ii) theoretical calculations (first-principles, molecular dynamics, finite-element method, etc.).
Outstanding research methods are supposed to be indicated in Application material (3).

The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the partners. The position will be expected to adapt and develop scientific skills, join international and interdisciplinary collaborations and present results in scientific journals and at academic conferences.
