Recruitment of Postdoctoral Researcher (Prassides Lab) Functional Molecular Materials Laboratory, AIMR Tohoku University
The discovery of new molecular functional materials such as superconductors and magnets (including quantum spin liquids) is a strong feature of our research effort in the Functional Molecular Materials Laboratory at the AIMR, Tohoku University. We have an unparalleled expertise and a world-leading level of success in this field as evidenced from a continuous series of high-impact publications over the last 10 years (representative papers include: Nature Materials 2008, 7, 367; Science 2009, 323, 1585; Nature 2010, 466, 221; Nature Communications 2012, 3, 912; Science Advances 2015, 1, e1500059; Nature Communications 2017, 8, 14467; Nature Chemistry 2017, 9, 635; Nature Chemistry 2017, 9, 644). Our present research programme focuses on new superconducting and magnetic materials built from molecular components such as C60 and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). We make and study by advanced characterization techniques unique and exciting compounds whose properties challenge theory for satisfactory explanations.
Although our emphasis is on motivation to pursue a high-level research career rather than past experience, possession of the following expertise and skills will be of an advantage:
・synthesis and structural analysis of functional molecular materials (PhD in Chemistry) or
・electronic and magnetic characterization of solid state materials (PhD in Physics).
Research will involve extensive use of domestic and international synchrotron X-ray facilities and close collaboration with other research groups and experts both in Japan and abroad.
